The department boasts of being one of the busiest departments of the hospital with around 6,000 CT scans, 30,000 USG exams, 2,00,000 conventional studies ( plain-radiographs & special investigations ) & 1,000 interventional radiology procedures being carried out each year. All major diagnostic and interventional procedures are carried out here. The department is placed in the heart of the hospital and is the central hub of activity.
CT scanner It is well equipped with a Multi slice spiral CT scanner, USG and Doppler Machines, an Image Intensifier Coupled with Video SVHS System and an array of X-Ray machines and specialized interventional radiology department with 80 Kw digital angiography unit, 5 Kw C arm Image Intensifier with DSA. The procedures are
carried out by a team of experienced doctors, young enthusiastic residents spearheaded by an innovative and dynamic leader.

    Facilities Available
  1. Vascular interventions are broadly divided into:

    A) Vaso-occlussive techniques (embolizations)
    Procedures performed in
    1) Gastrointestinal hemorrhage (upper and lower G.I.)
    2) Post traumatic hemorrhage
    3) Aneurysm, pseudo aneurysm, arteriovenous fistula (either post traumatic, iatrogenic, inflammatory, tumoral or other origin)
    4) Haemoptysis (bronchial and non bronchial collaterals bleeding)
    5) Chemoembolization (in hepatic and pelvic neoplasm’s)
    6) Post partum hemorrhage, fibroid embolizations.
    7) Varicoceles
    8) Preoperative tumoral embolizations e.g. Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma

    B) Revascularization techniques
    1) Percutaneous angioplasty
    2) Percutaneous stenting
    3) Mechanical thrombectomy
    4) Chemical thrombolysis
    5) TIPSS (Tran jugular intrahepatic Porto systemic stent shunt)
In acute ischemic limb, Reno vascular hypertension, stroke,
Post operative anastomotic stenosis, budd chiari syndrome etc.

    C) Filter Placement
IVC filter placement in DVT causing pulmonary embolizations.

  2. Non vascular interventions are broadly classified into

    A) Catheter drainage of fluid collection
    1) Intraperitoneal
        - Ascites

Ultra Sound

  • Aloka SSD 630 sonography machine.
  • Toshiba Eccoocee Doppler and ultrasound unit
  • Image capturing software with completely computerized image management
  • Computerized immediate reporting (24 hrs. working)

Ultra Sound and Color Doppler Machine with 3D and Tissue Harmonic Imaging : This is a state of art ultrasound and color Doppler unit from ALOKA. The machine has got real time 3 D imaging and tissue harmonic mode. Apart from the routine ultrasound and Doppler sonography of the body, machine is capable of acquiring real time 3D images which facilitates diagnosis of congenital fetal anomalies. Tissue harmonic mode has made imaging possible in obese patients and deeper structures in the body. An image capturing software has made image storage and retrieval on separate P.C.

List of the procedure possible with this machine

  • Abdominal, pelvic and thoracic sonography
  • Small part sonography
  • Color Doppler studies of arterial and venous system
  • Intracavitory sonography
  • Real time 3D imaging

Teleradiology Project
This project connects the department to various higher centers & in various district levels
